Join LGBTQ+ in Tech and event sponsor Paradigm as we honor Indigenous People’s Month and National Coming Out Day. During this event, you’ll learn from someone's perspective on what it means to be two-spirit and show up for Indigenous and LGBTQ2S+ people in Tech.
Do you know what it is to be two-spirit in the Indigenous community? It’s not as simple as being a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Two-spirit is a pan-Indigenous umbrella term that covers various gender-variant roles, sexual orientations, and identities in different Indigenous cultures. We are lucky to have Court Morse (Chippewa, Ojibwe, Anishinaabeg) to tell us more about their experience as a Two Spirit person.
Respect is an important part of who we are. Before every PDXWIT event begins we offer a land acknowledgement. We believe in the importance of acknowledging the Indigenous communities that have occupied the land we live and work on. Although this sentiment is important, Court will talk to us about why this practice can be controversial and offer up additional solutions for positive impact in the native community.
