Join us for Happy Hour at New Relic on January 21st!
The theme of our January Happy Hour is “Humanizing Your Tech Experience.” To get people talking about this, our conversation prompt for the event will be “How can you humanize and stay authentic at work?”
While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 6:00pm to share important announcements and showcase members of our community.
A representative from our host company New Relic will share what they do and what job opportunities are available at the company
Delta Likins, DE&I Speaker & Trainer, will talk about rehumanizing each other in tech
Claire Hernandez, Sr. Director, Global Support at Puppet, will talk about how our hobbies and interests can contribute to satisfaction while on the job
During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:
An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.
Table Topics to help break the ice.
A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.
Agenda:
5:00 p.m. - Doors open/Networking
6:00 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers
7:00 p.m. - Event ends

What is your title and your favorite thing about your job?
Senior Product Operations Manager
People drive my interest in and out of the workplace. The people at New Relic not only embody the company values but are some of the most authentic and loving people I know. I am a firm believer that vulnerability is one of your greatest assets and allows us to connect deeply as humans and get past the surface level interactions. This deeper sense of connection tends to lead the way to a greater sense of camaraderie, trust, collaboration, ability to own up to/learn from mistakes and a more inclusive team. I love working at New Relic because it LIVES it's values and I work alongside some of the best. The "best" being those humans that are extremely smart, bold, authentic, driven, vulnerable, hilarious and encourage an ongoing environment of learning!
How did you become involved in PDXWIT?
Before joining the PDXWIT Mentorship Program, I served as a co-chair of the Women @ New Relic ERG (Employee Resource Group).
As a Committee, we’ve talked a great deal about Women’s rights, unconscious bias, shared perceptions/hardships, challenges of building a global network and including remote workers, and how it’s down right difficult to navigate conversations around diversity and inclusion while maintaining a respect for different points of view or opinions; to discuss each of these subjects not only with vulnerability but without the need to be right, and to actively listen to everyone’s input.
For me, one of the most impactful moments on the committee was an opportunity for each ERG to speak in front of Product Leadership, allowing these grassroots groups to share feedback with some of the highest levels of leadership in this organization. It was in this moment where I felt the true importance of being part of a group speaking up as the voice of many, and was honored to represent the Women of NR, and share our perceptions and the biases we face. This was an opportunity that gave me a platform to be my authentic and bold self!
After two years of service on the committee, I decided to take a step back and refuel my energy and passion and redirect it to something new. That's when I started as a PDXWIT mentor and the experience has been incredibly meaningful on so many levels. It's an honor to learn and share our experiences with other women in tech and help to build each other up.
What do you like to do for fun in Portland?
During my offtime I find equal time recharging solo or spending time with those I love. I run at least 3-4 times a week, spend time outdoors, found reading in a tea shops or laughing LOUDLY with friends.
Where can we find you on a Saturday night?
Life's a party and I find myself adulting hard. I enjoy the daytime hours where I can wake up to do something outdoors/active, spend time meditating, taking a nap and being grateful for my simple life. As for Saturday evenings, I find an equal balance of going out with friends or staying in solo.
