October Happy Hour Networking Event

  • Viewpoint 1510 SE Water Ave #300 Portland, OR, 97214 United States (map)

Join us for happy hour at Viewpoint on October 15th!

We have all experienced uncertainty in our lives and career, but sometimes this uncertainty can lead us in amazing directions. This month’s theme will be “Pivoting from uncertainty to passion.” To help get the networking flowing we will be using the conversation prompt “How have you overcome uncertainty in your career?”

While the event is primarily intended for networking, we will have a short segment at 5:30 p.m. to share important announcements and showcase three members of our community.

  • A representative from our host company Viewpoint will share what they do and what job opportunities are available at the company

  • Kathy Lee, Software Engineer at Microsoft, will give a lightning talk titled "How to push through uncertainty into potential"

  • Molly Lindquist, Founder and CEO at Consano, will talk about Channeling Personal Crisis into Professional Passion

During the event, we’ll have more to do than free-form networking:

  • An Activity Table where people can get creative. This is a fantastic way to meet others if large groups are not your thing. If you have trouble finding it, look for Meg Aul, our Event Activities Director.

  • Table Topics to help break the ice.

  • A section for job seekers and those hiring, to ensure people get connected.

Agenda:
4:30 pm - Doors open
5:30 p.m. - Introductions, Announcements + Lightning Speakers
6:30 pm - Event ends

Our events are inclusive. ALL people who support our purpose are welcome.

Host Spotlight

Betsie Hoyt

Meet Betsie Hoyt

What is your title and your favorite thing about your job?

As a Senior Product Manager I build the mobile app strategy and roadmaps for our field applications.  I'm so lucky to go on the construction job site to talk directly with the people using our mobile apps and observe their daily activities.  Our rockstar development teams then take these use cases to build even better and more intuitive technology.

How did you become involved in PDXWIT?

I'm active in several tech networking groups and got involved with PDXWIT mainly through my friends at Viewpoint.

What do you like to do for fun in Portland?

My time is spent at modern art exhibits, listening to local music, and eating my way through the diverse food scene .  I zealously explore the variety of french fries and tots throughout the city.

Where can we find you on a Saturday night?

It depends on the Saturday, sometimes I'm out and about with friends, listening to a wide variety of live music we are so lucky to have in Portland.  Then on other Saturdays I'm hanging out with my husband and my furry baby nerding out over a documentary on the couch.

We’re on the lookout for speakers

Do you have a unique story to tell? Do you have a specific skill set you’d like to share with our community? We’re always looking for speakers to share their knowledge at an upcoming PDXWIT event. Learn more about our current speaking opportunities.

Do you want to host an event?

Is your company interested in hosting a PDXWIT event? This is a great opportunity to gain powerful exposure to the local workforce while showing your support for inclusion in Portland’s technology industry.
