On The Spot Mentorship with PDXWIT

Receiving support and advice from successful, knowledgeable colleagues while important for everyone in the industry is essential to individuals underrepresented in tech. PDXWIT’s On The Spot Mentorship program works to find mentors who have the wisdom and experience to help, guide, and elevate someone entering into the technology field or transitioning into a new realm of tech. Through this program, mentees can advance their careers and overcome hidden obstacles that exist in the industry. 

In addition, mentors overwhelmingly report out how enriching and beneficial it is to them to provide this support. Mentoring is the ultimate pay it forward experience.

What exactly is On The Spot Mentorship?

A one-time, 30 or 60 minute session 1:1 between a mentor and mentee. These mentor relationships are vital for folks who need quick help. OTSM provides mentees in our community with the help they need to get the job or excel in the one they have. Meeting topics can range from resume or portfolio reviews, to mock interviews, to any other topic related to career advancement.

Who are the OTS mentors?

Mentors are community members who are well established in the technology world and willing to support and champion mentee’s growth and career advancement. We request that mentors have at least 3 - 5 years of experience in tech. 

Who are the OTS mentees?

Mentees work in tech, are on a path to a career in tech, or have a desire to learn more about working in the tech industry.

How do appointments work?

OTSM is 100% virtual and works with your schedule. Currently scheduling and video chats are held through the Setmore platform. Appointments are 30 or 60 minutes. Mentors integrate the Setmore calendar with work or personal calendars and the smart system knows if an appointment gets taken on the other end.

What’s the time commitment?

We ask that you offer at least two appointments per week (30 or 60 minutes each) on two separate days. We offer 30 minute 1:1 coaching, 60 minute 1:1 coaching, Mock Interview (60 min), Resume Review (60 min), and Portfolio Review (60 min). Sign up for all offerings or only the ones that speak to you.
