Meet Mika White

Why do you volunteer for PDXWIT? 

The goals of PDXWIT align with my values and I want to give back to my community. Portland has a diverse variety of talent that is not equally represented in the tech companies and advertising agencies that I have worked with for the past eight years. Allowing me to contribute to the long overdue change towards equality that PDXWIT strives for. 

What is your day job or another passion of yours (besides PDXWIT)? 

Currently I am working with a San Francisco based agency that is leveraging Apple’s ARKit and ML/AI to create digital experiences for the music industry. 

What has been your favorite PDXWIT project, initiative or event you have participated in as a volunteer? Why?

I love all the projects I have contributed to. One of my favorites was creating the animations for the State of the Community survey results. Motion graphics are a unique challenge and bringing all the data together visually was fantastic. 

What is something people may not know about you? 

When COVID officially arrived last March my first response was, how can I help? In addition to contributing my skills to tech initiatives, I sewed 500+ masks and gowns for frontline workers and donate weekly to food pantries.
